The NEW DECADE has begun…….
The age-old hegemonies and their regional control especially in the Middle East and Asia are ebbing away. This is primarily from assertion of emerging players, with their newly acquired wealth and growth of both political and military might. Additionally, an emergence of a new middle and upper middle class in the most populous areas of the globe are changing the fiscal landscape and its distribution. The Maldives is beneficiary to this shifting prospect.
Major companies have taken notice of these paradigm shifts, which are clear and evident in the automotive industry. Engine manufacturers have begun to align themselves with this new opportunity. An emphasis on Singapore, Dubai, China and now India is strongly evident. This is not the same strategy of old where redundant models were produced in Asia, China and Brazil as a cheap and affordable alternative. The hottest and the most advanced technologies are now appearing in these new areas of wealth.
Along with wealth, however, follows indisputable threats which require bolstering of militaries and the security apparatus . It has therefore been recognised that the USV or “Unmanned Surface Vessel” or Sea Drones will play a key role in the near future. Both Remote and autonomous USVs are currently being developed in haste. This is likely to be an immense opportunity and demand shift for the Outboard Motor market. Some keen-eyed inboard engine and water-jet manufacturers have already begun combining their expertise with key technology stakeholders to deliver on this very aspect where vessel, propulsion, control and monitoring systems will come together delivering a comprehensive solution. Surely an interesting and highly optimistic opportunity for the industry to exploit.
